The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has again rated Tyne Grange in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, as outstanding following an inspection in May and August.
Tyne Grange, run by Tyne Grange Health Care Limited, provides nursing and personal care for people with mental health needs.
CQC has rated the service as outstanding for being well-led and caring, and good for being responsive and safe. The area of effective wasn’t inspected so remains rated as good.
Victoria Marsden, CQC deputy director of operations in the north, said:
“At Tyne Grange, we found a service providing exemplary care which gave people living there the best possible home experience. Kind and caring staff built strong relationships and bonds with people, supported them to live independently and understand their individual care needs.
“People and their relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the home, describing wonderful staff going out of their way to support people and changing their lives for the better.
“One person who previously suffered from depression had become so much happier since moving into the home due to staff going above and beyond and providing exemplary care.
“Another person had been supported by staff to participate in activities and go out into the community, something which hadn’t been possible previously.
“Staff described Tyne Grange as the best place they’ve ever worked because everything they did at the service focused on people’s wellbeing, progress and happiness.
“People’s views and wishes are understood and communicated with them in bespoke ways to reassure them and build trusting relationships. Staff used non-verbal strategies to communicate with people when needed, to ensure they felt valued and empowered.
“Leaders and staff at Tyne Grange should be very proud of the findings of this report. It’s clear the home was committed to treating people as individuals and empowering them to achieve their goals and lead fulfilling lives. Other care homes should look to this report to see if there’s anything to learn from it.”
Inspectors found:
- The registered manager led by example and staff and professionals were highly complementary about their leadership.
- People living with complex mental health conditions were supported by extremely dedicated, kind and knowledgeable staff.
- Leaders had a very strong focus on continuous learning, development and improvement.
- Tyne Grange has strong links with partners to enable people to receive holistic care that meets their needs.
- Staff ensured safeguarding concerns, incidents and accidents were reported to the local authority appropriately and fully investigated.
- Leaders invested in staff so they could develop in their roles whilst promoting career development to ensure people received the best level of care.
- People and their relatives were involved in the care planning process and were kept informed of any changes.
