Our current view of the service

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 27 January 2026.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

The practice had ineffective systems to identify and manage risks. In particular, the risks associated with sharps safety, stock control, premises and equipment, lone working, fire safety and medical emergencies.

Improvements were required to the oversight of provision of staff mandatory training.

Clinical notes were not always recorded in line with recognised guidance.

Hall Street Dental Care is in St Helens and provides private dental care and treatment for adults.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 2 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 4 staff, of which there were 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse (who was also the practice manager), 1 receptionist and the cleaner. We gathered feedback from and spoke to all staff except the cleaner.

The provider was not complying with Regulation 15 Premises and equipment and Regulation 17 Good governance. Full details of the regulations the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.

People's experience of the service

Prior to our visit, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 20 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included,

“Very helpful. All excellent staff.”

“Great dentist. Does everything he can to look after your teeth and tried to save you from losing them.”

“[Dentist] is the best dentist ever. The treatment has always been great, always explains everything. [Dentist] really cares and always makes the best decisions about future treatment. I don’t know what I would do if [my dentist] wasn’t here, it’s worth the hour journey to get here. Thank you [Dentist]. [Receptionist] is great and nothing is too much trouble, appointment changes, phone calls for advice and future appointments are always dealt with efficiently and with care, amazing service all round.”

“Excellent. Professional. Friendly. Informative.”

“I have been a patient here for many years and have always been treated with respect and in a friendly manner. [Dentist] is very professional and always puts you at your ease.”

“Staff are very friendly and professional and put you at ease. I have implicit trust in them. I had originally a fear of dentists after a bad experience before I joined this practice but now are completely at ease.”

“Great service and great dentist. I was able to get an appointment for an emergency with no problem. All round great service, thank you!”

“Very good.”

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. “Lovely staff and always very helpful. Never had any issues and will always try to fit me in for treatment. Great service. [Receptionist] on reception is always very friendly. [Dentist] and [dental nurse] are always professional.”

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. “Have been a patient of [Dentist] for more than 20 years and have always received a professional, courteous and effective service. In the past when I have needed emergency treatment, I have been treated promptly. I have always been consulted on any proposed treatment and the costs of this. This is a really good dental practice from [Receptionist] on reception (always warm and welcoming) to [Dentist] and [Dental nurse] in the treatment room who always explain what will be happening during my visits.”

Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
