Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 13/01/2026 – 16/02/2026

Priory Lodge is a residential care home providing accommodation with personal care for up to 15 people. There were 11 people living at Priory Lodge at the time of our assessment. The service provides care to adults under 65 and people with mental health needs. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive a regulated activity of personal care. This is to help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of the inspection, 7 people were in receipt of regulated activity. This was a fully comprehensive assessment, and we looked at all 5 key questions.

We found that previous breaches in relation to person centred care and staffing were now met and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations. There was, however, a continued breach in relation to safe care and treatment and governance. There was not always sufficient information relating to individual risks to people and how these should be managed and mitigated. People’s care was not always personalised to reflect their individual needs and preferences. Governance systems and audits were not effective in identifying and addressing concerns, particularly around infection prevention control and medication.

Staff were caring and promoted people’s privacy and dignity. Staff understood their responsibility to report concerns about safety. Staff felt supported and enjoyed working at Priory Lodge. People’s communication needs were assessed.

In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website if appropriate, after any representations and / or appeals have been concluded.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people who lived at Priory Lodge along with their relatives to gain insight into the care they received. People and their relative’s felt people were safe, and staff were caring and kind. One person told us, “Staff listen to me and there are no restrictions” and “My [relative] feels safe and this makes me happy that they are happy staying at this home.”

Though people and relatives expressed overall satisfaction and none of the people we spoke with had any concerns with the care they received, our assessment did identify some elements of care and support that did not always meet the expected standards especially with relation to people’s records.

People and relatives told us they felt comfortable raising any issues with staff or the manager should they need to.
